Grant in Aid

The Grand in Aid is administered by your local SASSA office (South African Social Security Agency).

The grant is for people living on an disability, war veteran's or old age grant but are unable to look after themselves. In this case the recipient can get an extra grant (Aid in Grant) for the purpose of paymeny for the person who takes full-time care of them.

To be eligible for this grant, you must be assessed by a medical officer (state or private). If the applicant is cared for in a state institution you are excluded for this grant.

Financial Requirements

The financial requirements for the grant are the same as your main grant (disablity, war veteran's or old age grant). You can only get the grant-in-aid in addition to one of these main grants and not on it's own.

As of April 2020, the Grant in Aid is Rand 430 per month.

You need a valid medical report or assessment that shows that you need full-time care and the report must be less than 3 months old.

The medical report can be given by a private doctor and does not have to be from a state doctor.

The Grant-in-Aid is not paid to any third party but directly to the beneficiary. In other words, de grant is not paid to the care giver but directly to the care taker.
